Emily Boyd Propert creates gestural ink and painting works that distill movement into spare, expressive forms. Working primarily in black ink and fluid brushstroke, she explores rhythm, balance, and the energy of a single mark. Raised in Richmond, Virginia, and influenced early on by both of her grandfathers, Propert developed a sensitivity to craft and observation that continues to shape her practice. After studying Digital Art and Design, she lived and worked in New York and California, where proximity to the ocean deepened her engagement with flow, space, and natural motion. Drawing from surf culture and music, her compositions capture fleeting moments with restraint, allowing negative space to become as active as line.
